Hey Horizon Youth! Are you ready to Sharpen Up?

Sharpening Up is about growing your relationship with God. Chris, Alyssa and I were the type of teenagers who spent time getting to know God even when we weren’t at youth, and we love that there are many people like us at HZY.

We will put some awesome stuff on this page for you to dive into yourself. There is no limit to how deep you can go in God. He has treasures hidden for people dedicated to searching them out. Life, peace and freedom is found in God’s word.

Here are some tips for your sharpening up journey:

1 – JOURNAL

Journalling is so important because it helps you process what God is saying to you and also helps you apply it to your life. Here is how we journal:

– Write down your prayers

– Write down your notes from your bible reading

– Write notes as you listen to sermons online

– Write down your dreams and visions as you pray. It’s okay to pause and write when you are praying

2 – DON’T LET ANYTHING STOP YOU FROM SEEKING GOD

The reality is, there is always an excuse to stop seeking God, but we HZYers have the ability to push through the excuses. The reward is immense for the person who seeks God every day. Do whatever you need to… turn of your phone, get up earlier, it will be worth it! (Check out our tips for making time below)

3 – ASK GOOD QUESTIONS

Any question that comes up, write it down and ask your leader the next time you have a call with them. Questions are the best way to grow in your faith, but many people forget to actually ask them.

Go for it HZY!

A short course for teenagers about BIBLE BASICS.

If you haven’t done this, here is where to start.

It is heaps interesting and will make you so much more confident in your faith.

QUICK LINKS FOR YOUR DAILY TIME WITH GOD

BUT HOW DO I FIT IT INTO MY DAY?

Tip 1 – Don’t wait until you “feel” like doing it, you have to decide to do it no matter what you are doing

Tip 2 – Make a routine out of it (e.g. straight after breakfast or every night before bed)

Tip 3 – Busy studying? Build a study timetable that factors in some time with God

Looking for a study time table used by our top HSC performers – click here (download it and make adjustments to fit your own subjects and study times per day)

JACKSON AND ALYSSA'S FAVOURITE BIBLE PASSAGES

Check out these bible chapters that Jackson and Alyssa LOVE. Here is how to explore them best!

1 – Pick a good bible translation (some are easier than others to read). Try “The Passion Translation” and “The New International Version”.

2. Here are some questions to ask yourself as you are reading the scriptures:

What could this bible passage mean to me and my faith?

What situation am I going through right now that I could apply this to?

How is God wanting to make my relationship stronger with Him through this scripture?
