12th October 2021 Update

Hello Parents & Guardians!

We have loved connecting with your young people online, and we are looking forward to returning to in-person gatherings following the easing of government restrictions from this week, October 15th.

We recognise that one of the challenges facing young people at the moment is lack of social connection, so with that in mind and with the NSW Government’s Roadmap as our framework, we have devised a Horizon Youth Friday night program that adheres to these restrictions while ensuring our young people are in a safe, fun environment and reconnecting with their youth ministry community.

From this Friday the 15th of October, we are excited to announce that we will begin gathering informally with the launch of HZY Spot Parties – outdoor gatherings of under 30 people around the Sutherland Shire.

These “Spot Parties” will happen from 5:30pm to 7pm on Friday nights (weather dependent). There are 5 different activities, and the year groups will rotate through each of them over five weeks.  All activities will be supervised by fully vaccinated Horizon Youth volunteers.

We want to highlight that in line with NSW Health restrictions, those under 16 can participate in these gatherings regardless of vaccination status and teenagers 16 to 18 years old must be double-vaccinated to participate. For those who are unable to engage due to vaccination status or for young people who may not wish to participate in the in-person group activities at this time, we have pastors and leaders available to visit mid-week to connect with them by going for exercise or one-on-one outdoor recreation. Our commitment at this time is that we will do everything possible to connect with your child face-to-face and ensure they know that they are a valued part of our youth community. We urge you to please contact your young person’s life group leader to let them know if your child is unable to participate in the group activities at this time so we can provide the best possible support for them at this time.

General COVID Related Advice:

We respectfully ask that if your young person is experiencing any associated symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough, runny nose, or sore throat, they remain at home and follow the latest medical advice. We also understand that certain groups of people are more at risk and suggest that if your child, or someone in close contact with your child, is included in this high-risk category, that they only participate at your discretion.

As always, Horizon Youth has a COVID-safe plan which we will be following to keep our youth community safe.
